WE hadn’t had a family break since our week-long summer staycation last year — and we were starting to get cabin fever.

I had been working from home for nearly two years and was sick of looking at the same four walls — even if some of that time had been spent dreaming of being on a beach.

I’d heard about the beautiful shoreline in East Lothian but, despite it being so close, I’d never quite made it across.

So I stopped day-dreaming and got us all booked for a stay at Thurston Manor, a short drive from Dunbar and the perfect base from which to explore East Lothian.

The park is located in stunning grounds and offers excellent leisure facilities for the whole family — something that’s often hard to find given the age gap between daughters Leah, 16 and Neve, eight.

But this place hit the spot with onsite pool, pub, restaurant, playpark, arcade and evening entertainment. Home from home.

We bagged quite the place to stay too — a spacious, modern and well-equipped lodge, with two bedrooms and two bathrooms — so no fighting for the shower.

There’s an onsite shop that’s well stocked with everything you’ll need, so you don’t need to stress if you forget something.

The lodge is a real home from home, with a large sitting and dining area and an open-plan kitchen where we could cook and chat. When I say ‘we’ I mean ‘me’ — the girls simply sat at the breakfast bar.
