After an almost two-year musical hiatus, BLACKPINK will be back in your area.

On June 6, a representative from the group’s parent company YG announced that the quartet — made up of Lisa, Jennie, Jisoo, and Rosé — is in the final stages of recording their new album. Per Soompi, the agency also shared that the group will soon embark on “the largest-scale world tour in K-pop girl group history” until the end of 2022, coinciding with their comeback. “Furthermore, big projects fitting of that status will continuously follow,” stated the YG rep.

Although there is no word yet on the exact date for their upcoming release, according to Soompi, BLACKPINK will start filming a new music video in July and officially drop their new project in August.

Rumors of BLACKPINK’s comeback have been circulating since April 2022, with reports claiming that a new album could arrive “as early as June.” blackpink-jennie-confirms-the-group-will-make-their-comeback-soon-3176788"” href=”″>Jennie had also teased BLACKPINK’s return during a guest appearance on the Game Caterers YouTube channel last March with fellow YG labelmates, saying: “BLACKPINK is also making a comeback soon. I don’t know if I’m allowed to say this, but since I’m the only [BLACKPINK member] here, I’ll just say it. Please look forward to it. Thank you very much.”

Naturally, there’s been high anticipation amongst fans over BLACKPINK releasing new music. It’s been 1 year and 10 months since the group released their debut album, The Album, which consisted of their hit singles “How You Like That,” “Love Sick Girls” and “Ice Cream” featuring Selena Gomez. That’s not to say that the ladies of BLACKPINK were MIA during that time, though. Lisa & Rosé released solo music, Jisoo got her first leading role in the K-drama Snowdrop, and Jennie is allegedly in talks to star in HBO’s latest drama The Idol (which is being co-produced by The Weeknd). The quartet has also juggled being staples within the fashion and beauty industry as ambassadors for Dior, Cartier, MAC Cosmetics, Yves Saint Laurent, Chanel, Celine, Bulgari, and Calvin Klein.

Exactly what BLACKPINK has in store for us later this year is still a mystery, but best believe we’re certainly looking forward to it. Set your countdowns for August now!
